At first,this paper states the present situation and development of artificial forests in China.Then combined with the development trend of domestic and International Harvester and the plantation comparing to the characteristics of our country,this paper present a small crawler machine for artificial forest region in China which matches the status of Chinese economic operation.According to the characteristics of environmental characteristics and thinning of forest plantations in China,this paper puts forward process requirements and design requirements of the small crawler wood cutting machine.Based on this,the overall design and layout of the machine can be carried out.The cutting machine is composed of the cutting mechanism and the walking mechanism.Then analysis of logging methods,which determined that the machine’s cutting tool is the form of a combined circular saw.After analysis the kinematics principle,the formula for calculating cutting force,cutting power and feed force of spindle can be determined by conducting the actual working process of the wood cutting machine.At this point,the cutting parameters of the cutting spindle can be calculated.The rotary cutter is a combined cutting tool which consist a solid wood crosscut saw blade and two pieces of grinding saw blades.And combined with the cutting process of wood,the structure of the rotary cutter can be laid out.The cutting machine uses a gasoline engine as the power source,and directly drives the rotating main shaft to carry out cutting of the logs by belt driving.According to the structure and characteristics of crawler type walking mechanism,the structure form of undercarriage has been put forward.This paper also make the overall layout of the undercarriage and design the gears.In the calculation of key components,the shape,size and main technical parameters of the tracked driving mechanism have been calculated.At the same time,the design and analysis of the guiding device,feeding device and other important parts have been carried out.The cutting spindle and the mounting plate of spindle are the regions of stress and vibration in the whole machine,so a static and modal analysis is carried out by using ANSYS finite element analysis software.The stress,strain and deformation are obtained after static analysis.With this,Its stiffness can be checked.And after the modal analysis,the low order natural frequencies and mode shapes are obtained,then the vibration stability is checked.At last,the whole machine is assembled in virtual way,which can perform a motion analysis.With this,the rationality of the whole machine is verified.
