Objective: to investigate the efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization by the mixture of gelatin sponge particles and iodized oil in hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: A total of 59 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were recruited. These 59 patients were randomly divided into group A(gelatin sponge particles and iodized oil)and group B(iodized oil alone).AFP,clinical response and overall survival were analyzed. Results: The rate of AFP decline in group A was significantly higher than that in group B(84.2% vs 52.4%,P=0.032).The rate of partial clinical response was significantly higher in group A than in group B(56.7% vs 27.6%,P=0.024).Overall survival was significantly better in group A than in group B(P=0.001).The estimated 1-year,2-year,and 3year survival rates were 63.3%,43.3%,30% for the group A,and 34.4%,24.1% and 17.2 for group B,respectively. Conclusion: Transarterial chemoembolization by the mixture of gelatin sponge particles and iodized oil and Chemotherapy drugs is an effective form of treatment in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. |
