Objective: We evaluated the repair of the coronary endothelium of the smokers after the intervention with traditional Chinese medicine or dietary therapy. It was designed to explore a new strategy for improving coronary endothelial function of smokers by using traditional Chinese medicine. Methods: The 90 selected smokers suffering from noxious heat with blood stasis Syndrome(NH-BS) who met the criterion of smoking history, were randomly divided into traditional Chinese medicine group(30 cases), dietary therapy group(30 cases), and control group(30 cases). Then they were intervened by Jiedu Huayu Fang or dietary therapy or nothing respectively. All patients were measured by blood pressure, heart rate, von Willebrand factor(vWF), Nitric oxide(NO), Endothelin-1(ET-1), circulating endothelial cells(CEC) and non-invasive vascular ultrasound blood flow-mediated dilation(FMD),etc, before or after the intervention. Then they were compared one to another in order to response the repair situation of coronary endothelial. Results: Compared with dietary therapy group and control group, the indicators difference of traditional Chinese medicine group was statistically significant(P<0.01),including the blood pressure. Compared with control group, the indicators difference of dietary therapy group was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion: Traditional Chinese medicine( Jiedu Huayu Fang) intervention can repair smoking-induced coronary endothelial injury, and showed a certain anti-hypertensive effect, while the therapeutic effect of dietary therapy intervention was not significant.
