Objective:To determine the influence of adjuvant chemotherapy on glucose metabolism and function of ? cell of islet among patients with GI cancers after surgery. Methods:The changes of blood glucose?plasma insulin and C-peptide of 50 patients with gastrointestinal tract malignant tumor diagnosied in Qinghai university affiliated hospital from May 2015 to February 2016 before and after adjuvant chemotherapy were retrospectively analysied.Meanwhile we observe the effect of various factors(age?Blood Pressure?Body Mess Index)on glucose metabolism. Results:There are 9 patients developed clinically significant hyperglycemia after chemotherapy,8 of these patients experienced impaired fasting glucose and the rest one developed diabetes mellitus. The blood glucose?plasma insulin and C-peptide after four periods and six months were more increasing compared with that before chemotherapy(P<0.05).Our research showed that BMI index can influence blood glucose among these patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery while blood pressure and age is not correlative.Patients whose chemeotherapy including Docetaxel are more likely to suffer hyperglycemia in our research(P<0.05).The HOMA-IR after 6 month in 33 patients were elevated and the difference is significant. Conclusion:This research suggests that adjuvant chemotherapy can induce glucose metabolic disorders in patients with GI cancer.BMI can induce hyperglycemia among patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy, and it suggest that those patients should maintain their body weight to lessen the risk. The hyperglycemia caused by chemotherapy may due to insulin resistance.
