A Report On The Translation Of Ancient Sichuan: Treasures From A Lost Civilization (Chapter One)

The project chooses Ancient Sichuan:Treasures from a lost civilization as the source text, which is a historical relic work mainly edited by Robert Bagley, a professor of Chinese art history and archaeology in the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University with contributions of Jay Xu, the Curator of Chinese Art at the Seattle Art Museum. This book is a collection of 128 works of bronze, jade, and clay dating from the thirteenth century B.C. to the second century A.D.The translation report is based on the translation process of Chapter One. This report summarizes and analyzes the background of the translation project, the translation process, and translation skills under the guidance of relevant translation theory as well as difficulties met in the process of translation. Reiss's Text Typology Theory is the theoretical guidance of this report. It is believed that translation skills shall be varied in accordance with different types of texts in order to reproduce smooth and fluent source texts.The structure of the translation report is as follows:the first chapter is a general introduction of the translation program, which introduces the background of the program, the author and the main content of the source text. The second chapter is about the translation process, which comprises preparation work, the translation progress and the follow up work after translation. The third chapter, the core section of the whole report, is about translation theory and case studies under the guidance of relevant translation skills. The last part is a summary of the whole report, including difficulties met in the process of translation and experience gained from the translation project.
