This paper is a summary of the author’s translation experience of the second part of the introduction, Ancient Sichuan:Treasures from a Lost Civilization, which is a typical academic book about Chinese culture and history. The original text contains a large amount of history and heritage information, as well as objective description of the relics and the events of ancient Sichuan. The source text belongs to informative text that gives a lot of information. Peter Newmark’s text typology theory puts forward specific methods for the translation of informative text And according to text typology theory, different translation methods should be applied according to the various features of different types of works. There are mainly three kinds of texts generated by Newmark, which include expressive text, informative text and evocative text. For the historical text, the "faithfulness" principle is the most important one in translation. The translation report expounds the translation of the introduction’s second part mainly in the following four respects:analysis of the source text and significance of translation, Newmark’s text typology theory and theoretical application, translation process and case analysis. The author mainly makes use of foreignizing and domesticating strategies under the guidance of text typology theory with amplification, omission and other translation skills in the process of translating the source text. This report analyses the source text with innumerable examples by utilizing the text typology theory. It is hoped that the utilization of text typology theory, the domesticating strategy, foreignizing strategy and translating skills involved in the translating of the source text would be regarded as a reference to people who will translate the same kind of texts in the future.
