The plaque is one of the important carriers of Chinese folk culture. For 2000 years, it has integrated odes and poems, calligraphy and seal cutting, as well as architectural art which are all spread in the ancient Chinese culture. Besides, it shows and inherits the splendid Chinese culture and excellent ethics.Firstly, in the introduction, the paper simply reviews plaque's history and makes a brief introduction to the study subjects, that is, the basic situation of 14 plaques inscribed by nine Yuelu Academy's lecturers from the twenty-two year of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty to the thirteen year of Emperor Tongzhi. Moreover, it reviews current situation of plaque's academy development and introduces the reason of choosing the topic and the method of studying the plaque.Secondly, this paper makes a detailed textual research on the 14 plaques collected in Yuelu Academy. Each plaque attaches pictures and is analyzed respectively from the following respects:the category and material of the plaque, the time of inscription, lecturer's experience of imperial examination and working experience, lecturer's contribution to the Academy, the social relationship between lecturers who accept and inscribe the plaque, and decorative art of plaque, etc. The top and bottom of the plaque contain abundant information, including the purpose of inscription, life experiences of a person who inscribes the plaque, and the relationship between people who accept and inscribe the plaque, especially different relations reflected by subtle changes of plaque inscription words.Thirdly, under the influence of social culture, the plaques also reflect social ethics system and morality fashion. On the basis of detailed arrangement and research on plaques, the paper turns to the research of plaque's cultural connotation. It discusses plaques from the respective of the culture of respecting and giving preferential treatment of the old, the culture of woman chastity and the cultural connotation of virtue, etc.Ultimately, the paper ends with a summary of plaque culture. The plaque inscribed by lecturers is the witness of the folk culture and the records of the folk piety culture in Qing Dynasty. By the way of inscribing and giving plaque to express appreciation is from human nature and close to people's life. Meanwhile, it's easily accepted by people and conveys the Confucian filial spirit of the Qing Dynasty. Plaques inscribed by lecturers of the Qing Dynasty play an important role in the praise of filial piety, the edification of the masses and the practice of social customs.In conclusion, the plaques show refined diction, exquisite calligraphy and exquisite carving skills. Moreover, as unique works of Chinese folk culture, they convey Confucian ethics in the Qing Dynasty and have important historical, scientific and artistic value.
