This is a translation project report of A Risk Management Approach to Climate Adaptation in China, of which Chapter 1 to Chapter 3 is the source text. The source text was published on World Bank Group in June, 2013. It outlines a framework for managing risks posed by present-day climate variability, extreme weather events, and future climate change to an individual sector in China, including transportation, urban water utilities, and forestry and proposes a series of measures to reduce the sensitivity and increase the resilience to extreme weather. The translator mainly takes Skopos Theory as the guiding theory. According to Skopos Theory, the most important role is “skopos rule”, it determines translation methods and strategies while recipient determines the purpose of translating, so the translator should pay special attention to the choice of words. Generally speaking, there are four parts of this report. Part One introduces project background, objective, significance and structure of this report. Part Two gives a brief introduction to the author and the main content of the source text, and it analyzes the language features of it. Part Three presents the translation difficulties and translation methods with specific examples. The main translation methods adopted in the translation process are splitting, conversion and so on. Part Four concludes with translation experience, lessons and unsolved problems.
