The translation project works on a report entitled G20 Labour Markets in 2015: Strengthening the Link Between Growth and Employment co-issued by the International Labour Organization, the Organization for Cooperation and Development and the World Bank Group. This report falls into the category of economic literature, which provides a thought-provoking overview of its subject matter—G20 labour market in 2015. The report emphasizes the need for coordinated and integrated public policies, including strong and supportive macroeconomic, trade, investment and labour market policies, along with resilient and effective social protection systems, sustainable public finance and well-regulated financial systems. Coordinated policies in these areas are seen as the foundation for sustainable, job-creating economic growth. As China is one of the G20 member states, the Chinese version of this report is indispensibly needed and will definitely offer the Chinese research makers, business organizations and government officials a better look at the labour market in these countries and thereby work out a comprehensive solution to unemployment and underemployment problems domestically. This translation project report takes the Thoery of Sense(or the Theory of Sense) as its theoretical basis. According to Danica Seleskovoitch and Marianne Lederer, translation or interpreting is interpretive by nature. They hold that the purpose of interpreting is to enable communication. As a kind of communication activity, the objective of translating is the transition of meaning instead of language, pragmatics in stead of grammer, and the realization of sense equivalance instead of verbal equivalance. In order to reach the objective, the translator should fully grasp the cognitive context and the vague language in the source text during preparation, and to follow the procedure of triangle model during translation. In addition, the triangle model in the domain of the Theory of Sense well defines the steps a translator should follow. Therefore, the translator holds that the Theory of Sense can be applied to the translation practice of G20 Labour Markets in 2015: Strengthening the Link Between Growth and Employment after analyzing the source type and text features.Accordingly, in the process of translation, this translator should convey the concept and information of the original text accurately while keeping the Chinese version simple and clear in the syntactic structure. This translator hopes this translation project can not only offer some useful reference to related policy makers in China, but also proves in practice the importance of the Theory of Sense in translating formal text type of the economic literature.
