This report is on the translation of Discovering The Humanities: The Gothic and the Rebirth of Naturalism(Second Edition)(Chapter 6), edited by Henry M. Sayre, a professor of art history at Oregon State University. The marginalization of humanities is becoming increasingly severe with the development of economy, society and science and technology. The source text gives readers a overall picture of the history during the Gothic period. It tries to arouse people's love for humanities by narrating the great achievements in various fields through plenty of beautiful pictures in an interesting story-telling way. Given that humanities are of great significance in driving academic progress, passing on excellent culture and carrying on human civilization. The translator believes the Chinese version is meaningful to draw readers' attention and arouse their love for humanities.This translation report is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is about a translation description, including the significance of the project, a brief introduction to the author and an analysis of the style of the source text. Chapter Two is an introduction to the translation preparation, including theoretical preparation and preparation for professional knowledge. Chapter Three is about the translation theories adopted, including skopos theory and text typology theory. Chapter Four is about translation difficulties and solutions. The difficulties lie in the translation of jargons and proper names, long sentences, and parentheses. In this part, the translator used different translation skills to solve the difficulties she had encountered. Chapter Five is a translation conclusion, which includes lessons and gains as well as problems to be solved. Under the guidance of skopos theory and text typology, the translator endeavors to solve the difficulties and problems appeared in humanity text, so as to provide references to translators of the same area.
