This is a report on translation of Discovering the Humanities(Chapter 15), written by Henry M. Sayre, a distinguished professor of Art History at Oregon State University. This book mainly introduces the development of cultures, thoughts and arts throughout the world in different time. The text type of the source text is informative, which is aimed to provide the TT readers with the humanistic knowledge involved. When translating, the translator takes Hans J. Vermeer's Skopos theory as a guiding theory to solve the problems and achieve the desired effect of faithful and smooth translation. This report is composed of five parts. The first part introduces the background, significance and structure of the translation project, followed by an analysis of the source text in Part 2, Skopos theory in Part 3 and translation difficulties and solutions in Part 4.
