During the period of the Republic of China, the prepositions "da, cong, zai, dang, duiyu, guanyu" have change a lot. The thesis takes the Four Generations under One Roof and the newspaper of Yi Shi in Beijing as the core corpus, and A Dream of Red Mansions, The Heroic Sons and Daughters of a Manchurian Family, Xiao E, Chun E Shi, the work collection of Deng Youmei, the fiction of Wangshuo and other materials whose background are Beijing dialect as the assistant corpus. The thesis checks the usage of those prepositions from their grammar meaning, syntactic function and pragmatic functions. The author finds that in this period those prepositions had more distinctive function and wide and frequent usage. Some of them changed a lot in their grammar meaning. There were some new prepositions and the compound structure of prepositions. This essay is divided into five parts.The first chapter is introduction. The author mainly introduces the meaning of this topic and generalizes the relevant findings. Meanwhile, the author briefly explains the object, scale, method and innovation of the study.In the second chapter, the author studies the prepositions "da" and "cong", and finds their similarities and differences in terms of word structure, grammar meaning, the frequency of use, etc, through calculating and analyzing the usage of "da", "cong" and the compound structure in the corpus. The author notices that in this period the preposition "da" could better construct words and the preposition "cong" has broaden grammar meaning and more frequent usage.In the third chapter, the author analysis the grammar meaning, syntactic function and pragmatic function of the preposition "guanyu", "duiyu" and compares their differences and similarities. The finding is that during the time of Republic of China, the two prepositions could not replace each other and have different grammar meaning, as "guanyu" emphasis more on scale and "duiyu" talks more about treatment. When they are adverbial in the form of preposition phrases, they have different position with the subject, "guanyu" can be the tile of the passage, but "duiyu" cannot.In the fourth chapter, the study on "zai" and "dang" is conducted. Through reviewing relevant corpus, the author discovers that the preposition "zai" can be used with words representing time or place at the beginning of a sentence, which expended its usable range, "dang" can be used with "...(of) when" and other words, increasing its frequency of use.In the fifth chapter, the author concludes the features of preposition during the period of Republic of China and introduces why these features came into being. The author points out that the features of the prepositions comes from the vernacular movement and western learning introduced into China and also relates with the character of the corpus.
