In formal and informal conferences, a speaker generally speaks for 2 to 8 minutes or longer. This can put interpreters under huge pressure in terms of memory, especially short-term memory. So interpreters must rely on notes to reduce the stress of memory and be more accurate with output. However, different people are different in taking notes. So how to choose the best way is the most critical issue. This paper discusses the feasibility of appropriately applying mind map to note-taking in consecutive interpretation, and finds mind map can be used in note-taking. To begin with, mind map shares similarity with note-taking in components, such as numbers, alphabets, abbreviations, words, symbols, and marks created by interpreters themselves. Besides, the key function of note-taking is to activate the logical connections inside the brain to integrate the meanings conveyed by words and sentences, so does the mind map. More importantly, both of them can be analyzed from the perspective of cognitive psychology. This paper adopts the methodology of literature research backed by comparative analysis and case analysis to verify the feasibility of using mind map in note-taking. This paper aims to inspire interpreters to develop their personal styles in note-taking while combining their abilities, and also aims to bring up a different perspective in note-taking study.
