This thesis tries to explore the influence of subjectless clauses in Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpretation based on experiment and figure out the strategies to interpret subjectless clauses by combining interpreters' performance and the Interpretive Theory. In the theoretical chapter, the Interpretive Theory is introduced from the perspective of its core ideas, deverbalization and the Triangle Model. The syntactic differences between Chinese and English are then described to explain why there are subjectless clauses in Chinese, while no such clauses in English. This thesis also elaborates the influence of subjectless clauses on translation and lists the strategies of translating subjectless clauses concluded in previous studies so as to know how influence of syntactic differences is mitigated before. In the empirical chapter, the data gathered from the experiment is analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Through quantitative analysis, this thesis proves subjestless clauses have exerted some influences on simultaneous interpretation. Generally speaking, interpreter with better overall performance will receive less influences from subjectless clauses. Every interpreter is influenced by subjectless clauses to different extent and how much an interpreter is influenced is not directly related to the overall performance of the interpreter. Subjectless clauses influence mostly on the completeness, then less on fluency and language correctness and much less on loyalty. They exert very little influence on the consistency. Through qualitative analysis, the thesis figures out adding a subject, interpreting into passive clauses are two every effective strategies. There are also other strategies to interpret subjectless clauses with each having its own advantages and disadvantages, so interpreters must be very flexible when applying those strategies...
