This is a translation project of Chapter Seventeen of Beijing Welcomes You:Unveiling the Capital City of the Future, authored by Tom Scocca, a columnist for the New York Observer, Slate blogger. The book is about experiences of Scocca and his family members living in Beijing from 2004 to 2008, including the preparations Beijing had done for the 29 thOlympic Games, they had witnessed the extraordinary transformation of the city into a marvel for the world, and also the massive Sichuan earthquake. The report is divided into four parts. Part One is a brief description of the translation project such as its background, its significance, and its structure of the report. Part Two is mainly an introduction to the source text, including its author,content and linguistic features. Part Three is about difficulties encountered in the translation, and the corresponding skills adapted under the guidance of Dynamic Equivalence theory, including words selection, addition, division and combination.Part Four summary experiences and lessons from this project and problems to be solved.
