Water, one of the most prominent material resources essential for human beings' survival and development, functions not only the cradle for life, but also the irreplaceable and key resource for industry and agriculture. With the ongoing progress of global economic and social development, water resources have been highlighted as yet a common focus by international community. However, water resources are known both scarce and unevenly distributed. Moreover, water resources suffer from a series of pollution while people are chasing for high-speed development. Therefore, water resources go beyond the realm of resources to pop out as a major strategic issue, concerning national economy, sustainable development of society as well as prolonged stability. Focusing upon the progress of international water treatment in the year of 2015, this translation report presents the up-to-date news, market tendency, and dynamics of water industry. By doing so, the thesis aims to provide reference for water management program in China. At present, few translation studies are targeted at the English text of water resource and the water sector. Thus, this translation report can enrich the translation experience for English texts of water sector.The source text of this translation report is from Water & Waste Water International, a magazine reflecting latest information about water sector. With the theme of international water and wastewater expo, the content concludes global tendency of water resources, water challenges confronting in the future, the cutting-edge technology for wastewater, the progress of water treatment expo, and the latest results for water management and treatment achieved by the leading companies of water sector. In this translation report, the author elaborates the whole program from pre-translation preparation, translation process, issues after translation, and case study. Meanwhile, conclusions are made to review the whole program. In the pre-translation phase, the author collects both Chinese and English news reports relevant to international water treatment, thus having a basic understanding of the dynamics of water sector both home and abroad. In addition, common words and terminologv of water sector are summarized in order to enhance precision for the target text. Furthermore, Nord's text analysis theory and the text type theory hold by Functionalism Approach are applied to guide this translation report and draw a clear picture of intratextual and extratextual factors affecting the translation program. To deal with the problems in the whole process of translation, Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory is typified as the main translation strategy. The author goes deeper to summarize some translation skills in accordance with the specific cases of this program, including reconstruction and combination, addition and deletion, class shift, linear translation and inversion as well as transformation between active and passive voice. By way of conclusion, the professional qualities essential for a translator specializing in water sector are reflected.
