With climate change and the increasing demand for transboundary water resources between countries, transboundary water issues have far exceeded the scope of technical discussions. They have been more politicized, and become the most urgent, complex and controversial issues that the international community must resolve. However, there are relatively few translations of English literature on transboundary water resources in China.Translation of documents of this subject will help to introduce foreign approaches to transboundary water resources to China, and promote China to effectively resolve transboundary issues with neighboring countries. The translator chooses chapter five of Ahmed Abukhater's Water as a Catalyst for Peace:Transboundary Water Management and Conflict Resolution as translation material This material is an academic text, designed to convey information and reflect objective facts.Functional Equivalence Theory requires that the translation can reproduce the language and connotative information of the original text, which is consistent with the characteristics of academic texts that mainly convey information. Therefore, the translator chooses Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory as the guiding theory of this translation practice.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, together with the actual translation practice, this report summarizes the general strategies and methods for achieving equivalence at vocabulary, sentence, and discourse levels. These strategies include:with the help of context, accurately judging and translating word meanings to achieve functional equivalence at the lexical level;giving priority to the reader's response when handling translation issues at the sentence level;splitting long sentences, common in academic texts, into short sentences or clauses and reorganizing them according to the language expression and logic of the target language;at the discourse level, different cohesion methods between Chinese and English should be considered to ensure the coherence of the text and the accuracy of the logical relationship.
