An Interpreting Report In VOLVO Car Manufacturing Department

Automobile industry is one of the pillar industries in China, occupying an important position in the national economy. Since joining the WTO, Chinese automobile industry gradually stepped into the world automotive industry system and entered a golden period of development. Facing the rapid development of Chinese automobile industry and international market trends, English is a major tool for communicating with the world, the role of interpreters is increasingly highlighted in communication.From June to December in 2015, the author worked on interpreting practice in Manufacturing Engineering Department of Daqing VOLVO Cars Manufacturing Company, and the main work is translation about equipment and automobile, conference interpreting and accompanying interpreting with in the workshop.During the interpreting, non-standard English of different countries is a big challenge. The author also summarized some characteristics about scientific English, the characteristics and the skills of engineering interpreting, and analysed the problem of engineering interpretation. In addition, summarized the qualities of interpreters who work on engineering interpreting. Finally, analysed and summarized the interpreting experience.During the process of interpreting, the author found that the references for engineering interpretation is less than others, and most of which particularly stressed on the theory level, lacking the combination with practice. The author discussed the important and difficult problems and solution of engineering interpretation according to the references and related interpreting theory, and summed the professional qualities of an interpreter. I hope this paper can provide a reference for the research and the people who work on this area, and enrich the interpreting teaching.
