Today, the in-depth exploration and transmission of local culture is treated as an important strategy for “Go out policy” of Chinese culture. In view of this background, the advocating of Leizu culture provides access for readers domestically and internationally to learn the history and culture of Sichuan, and strengthen the spreading of Chinese traditional culture. The author undertook the translation task of The story of Leizu, one book among“The Translation and Transmission Project of Chinese Traditional Culture” and wrote this translation report based on the translation practice. The Story of Leizu vividly depicts the life and achievements of Leizu: She discovered the silkworms, initiated the method of planting mulberry trees plus breeding silkworms, invented numerous rearing instruments, and pioneered the way of reeling silk from cocoons and the way of making silk clothing from a host of trial experiments before marriage; after marriage, she assisted Huangdi in unifying the whole country, settling the disputes and helping people live and work in peace and contentment. Considering the purpose of this book, coupled with the characteristics of cultural text, this paper analyzes the foreignness of culture and the foreignness of language and focuses on how to cope with the difficulties and problems--exotic culture, four-character expressions and idioms--in the translation process through the application of Venuti's foreignizing translation theory.Via the translation practice and the analysis of the report, the author figured out that the application of transliteration, transliteration plus annotation and literal translation under the guidance of Venuti's foreignizing translation theory serve as great approaches to preserve the heterogeneous culture and language, while domestication is a necessary complementary strategy to guarantee the acceptance and the readability of the target-language text. Additionally, in the course of the pre-translation,during-translation and post-translation, the author realized the importance of team work, and the necessity of enhancing the translation practice and accumulating translation theory as well as background information. This paper is expected to broaden the research perspective of Leizu culture and promote the transmission and communication of Chinese culture.
