In the history of Western literature, the image of devil has undergone a process of evolving development. The Russian literature and culture had provided a sufficient context for the creation of devil theme, so that this tradition has been greatly enriched.Lermontov(????????? ?. ?., 1814—1841) is a great Russian poet, novelist, dramatist in the 19 th century. He wrote more than 400 lyric poems, 27 long poems, 5 plays, 6 novels, and some essay in his short life. His creations have a profound effect on writers and poets of 19 th and 20 th century. Images of the devils are dominant in Lermontov's creation of all forms; their unique ethos and charisma was embodied by the devil in poem "Devil"(?????, 1841), Arbenin in drama "Masquerade"(????????, 1835—1836), Pechorin in the novel "Hero of our time "( ????? ?????? ???????, 1840) and other figures.We can fully understand the creative thinking and artistic charm by analyzing Lermontov's character of demon images, digging inner spiritual characteristics of the images, and exploring the aesthetic value of Lermontov's devil theme. First, to explore the origin and development of devil image that has profound impact on the devil temperament of Lermontov and creation of devil theme to some extent. Secondly, from the text itself, we can deeply understand character and aesthetic value of Lermontov devil images. They have the same ethos and different character traits. Finally, we can dig inner spirit of Devil images, profound philosophical meaning and aesthetic value thought three aspects: awareness and human nature, tragic implication and spiritual strength, dialectical thinking of good and evil.
