| Culture presents a country’s core value. Western countries are well known for their coffee culture which gives people the impression of overflowing enthusiasm, just like the romantic westerners with free minds. In contrast, tea culture in China has been more or less infusing a kind of artistic conception. The definition of the term tea culture is given by the book named Dictionary on Chinese Tea-leaves, referring to the combination of material wealth and spiritual wealth of tea-leaves which is created by human beings in the process of social and historical development. It takes the material as the main carrier and clearly reflects the spiritual contents.Since the emperor Shennong discovered the miraculous curative effect of tea in the process of tasting hundreds of grasses and herbs, this peculiar plant has brought a kind of green vitality to our life. Especially as a multi-ethnic state, the people of all ethnic groups in China love to drink tea, and also create a series of tea-drinking culture, such as the well-known buttered tea of the Tibetan nationality and the three courses of tea in the Bai nationality, which are especially the prominent embodiments of Chinese culture of tea-drinking.Although Chinese tea and tea culture have enjoyed a time-honored history, we still cannot deny the fact that with the intensive pursuit of the world globalization and rapid economic development, the majority of Chinese people have already forgotten the culture and customs which are contained in the tea-leaves and just swig to quench their thirst though keeping the tea-drinking habit as always. On the contrary, the development of tea culture, especially the tea ceremony is thriving in some Asian countries like Japan and South Korea. In view of this, the thesis intends to introduce and analyze the classics on tea and the aesthetics which are contained in tea, and help readers to deeply understand the profound thoughts and artistic conception contained in the tea culture, thereby, the tea tasters will not only get into the habit of drinking tea-leaves, but also be willing to place themselves in the habits and feelings in tea culture and tea ceremony in their future life. On the other hand, the author has done the translation research on the selected classics Treatise on Tea, and conducted the comprehensive discussion from the perspectives of the development of the tea history, environment and technology of tea-planting, tea ceremony and tea sets in the tea literature. The thesis is designed to achieve the digestion of the beauty both in the source text and target version, and thus help those foreign readers to fully experience the charm and aesthetic embodiment of Chinese tea culture and finally truly achieve the purpose of cultural transmission and exchange in the context of globalization. |
