An Aesthetic Study Of Zero Translation In Chinese-English Translation

Translatability and untranslatability have been co-existing in the field of translation study.Untranslatability has always been considered as a hard nut to crack and a great barrier to surmount.With the increasingly deepening of globalization and international communication,as well as the greater and greater accumulation of translation practice,various original translation strategies are created to solve the theoretical untranslatability.Such strategies are zero translation,which enables the"untranslatability" in theory to be translatable in practice,signifying a new era for translation study.On the basis of the research and investigation on C-E translation materials in different genres,it is found that zero translation phenomena are ubiquitous.Zero translation is an original translation strategy and enjoys relatively much researching focus in the past decade and a half.Therefore,it is necessary and conforms to the researching trend to make an intensive study of zero translation.At present,the existing researches on zero translation mainly focus on the theoretical and practical study.Seldom is zero translation married to other discipline for further study.This thesis tries to probe into the zero translation in C-E translation materials from the aesthetic perspective under the guidance of Liu Miqing's aesthetic theory.Liu defines the concepts of Translation Aesthetic Object(TAO)and Translation Aesthetic Subject(TAS)in the process of translation,and analyzes the models and means to represent the aesthetic values in translation.Based on the theoretical analysis above,this thesis then probes into the aesthetic values of C-E zero translation respectively in language and culture.Through zero translation examples analysis,aesthetic features on semiotic,phonetic and rhetoric levels from the perspective of language as well as the aesthetic features on perspective of culture are discussed.Consequehomogenous cultural,heterogeneous cultural and hybrid cultural levels from the ntly,the study found that zero translation is an effective translation strategy and solution.Meanwhile,it enjoys great aesthetic values,upgrading the taste of C-E translation and improving the effect of international communication.Therefore,it is hoped that this thesis shed some light on and provide certain reference to the studies of C-E translation,zero translation as well as translation aesthetics.
