A Report Of Chinese Translation Of China—The Long-lived Empire(Chapters 14-18)

This is a translation report based on the five chapters of the research report China—The Long-lived Empire. This translation report mainly concerns the five chapters.:Chinese Peking, without the walls, the environs of Peking and The Great Wall of China, the valley of the Ming tombs.Guided by Peter Newmark's translation theory of text function classification, the translator classified the translation project as informative text. According to the text features, the translator mainly applied communicative translation strategy this translation practice. By reading some similar books, translator knew more about the cultural background, and asked for my tutor's advice, consulted my partners, polished my version again and again to improve my translation quality. Besides, in order to understand the text well, translator referred some parallel text and expressed the author's thought in target language better. During the process of translation, translator improved collecting and seeking information ability to discuss the proper noun translation of the original text in detail. As required by the features of the selected material, the translator will also try to ensure the faithfulness and fluency of the translated version by taking advantage of various translation techniques, for example, liberal translation and free translation. At last, translator summarized translation techniques through the induced conclusion in the practice report.
