The Dramatic Tendency In Turgenev's Novels

The writings by Turgenev greatly enrich the treasure house of Russian,even the world's realistic literature;from which his six novels mark the ripeness of Russian novel.The relative stability of stylistic features,the gradual decrease of poetic factors and the gradual increase of narrative factors entail the dramatic tendency of these six novels,which makes them different from previous Russian novel.This paper will conduct a deep research to the dramatic tendency of these six novels from the perspective of dramatic theory,which mainly focuses on the following parts:To begin with,the conversion of the plot conflict from exterior to interior.For the internal dramaticism,these six novels show the change of character's emotion and idea in the changing society by choosing the external to the internal plot conflict,which result to a dramatic aesthetic presentation of slow rhythm and static nature.The combination of external static and internal dynamic emotional knot as well as the potential and inner mental knot is the concrete expression of the internal conflict.Secondly,the conversion of the character dialogue from "narratives" to "show".In terms of artistic form,the dialogue of six novels adopt the form of conversion from"narratives" to "show";as to the content,the adoption of dramatic dialogues which are full of movement is closely related to the image-building of the characters and the development of the plot.As a result,the conversion of the character dialogue from"narratives" to "show" makes six novels have a dramatic aesthetic presentation of demonstration and intuition.Last but not least,the conversion of the plot setting to family.Family is the center of plot setting,which has the closed characteristic.Diverse plot was arranged at proper settings shows unique characteristic and spiritual feature of the characters.Meanwhile,the multiple construct of sound,color and light not only creates a poetry dramatic atmosphere,but also expresses the external emotion of character,metaphors the fate of the character and places the ideology of Turgenev.This dramaticism entails the novels a dramatic scene and poetry beauty.The dramatic tendency of the novels at the aspect of conflict,dialogue and setting is closely related to deep dramatic accomplishment and pioneering dramatic writing experience of Turgenev,as well as Russia social culture atmosphere in the 19th century.Meanwhile,it is also the infiltration of dramatic element to novel writing.The novels by Turgenev implicitly enfold the Russian ideological change of middle and late 19th century using a dramatic expression.The unique dramatic tendency makes the novels full of dramatic tensile force and gives readers a special dramatic aesthetic experience.
