With upcoming energy crisis profoundly troubling the world, improving energy efficiency and planning appears to be a serious issue. However, as a latecomer in energy exploration and utilization, China needs to obtain advanced experience and beneficial influence from developed countries through their energy plans.Based on the study on English-Chinese translation of U.S. Department of Energy Strategic Plan 2014-2018(hereinafter, the Strategic Plan) released by U.S. Department of Energy in March, 2014, this report is undertaken from the perspective of Skopos Theory. Being fully supportive of President Obama's energy strategy and action plan, the Strategic Plan sets goals in Energy & Science, Nuclear Security and Performance & Management and several strategic objectives. It offers U.S. government a roadmap to address energy challenges, and meanwhile, it means valuable reference for energy planning in China. This report consists of four parts: the first part introduces the background and significance of this translation task; the second part is translation procedure, including pre-translation preparation, pre-translation analysis and translation schedule; the third part proposes translation strategies from the perspective of Skopos Theory, and conducts case analysis on textual level, syntactic level and lexical level; the last part shares experience and enlightenment, and presents problems to be solved.
