The Study Of The Narrative Method Of Liu Zhenyun's A Top Ten Thousand

A Top Ten Thousand is a refined and mature full-length novel of Liu Zhenyun which has been published in 2009. It focuses on the spiritual world of the people who live in the bottom of society and shows their mental solitude vividly. The novel has brought widespread concern in the literary circles which has earned broad commendation and achieved great success. To get its success, except the unique subject and attractive language of the novel, unique narrative method is an important factor which can not be ignored. In this novel, the narrative method is not a form which has nothing to do with the ideological contents, however, it has integrated into the performance object and the theme of the novel. Various narrative methods show their special abilities in the novel, enabling the clue of the complex novel more clearer, making the narrative style calm and objective which can convey the author's value judgments secretly, allowing the common and simple language to fully show their deep meaning, letting the speed of narration differently in different parts, and also making the repeated narration reveal the cyclical nature of history. In addition, the narrative methods also evoke the consciousness of participation of the readers, facing the novel, the reader is not only a recipient, but also is a creator, and the readers' re-creation indefinitely extended the connotation of the novel. Therefore, because of its unique narrative methods, when readers read the novel, they not only can reap the joy of reading and feel the beauty of the novel's form, but also can make the reader's have a deep think about life, society and history.This paper will adopt the relative theories of narratology, exploring some unique features of the novel in the following aspects: the narrator, the critiquing approach, the mode of discourse, the narrative time, the narrative vacancy, and the repeated narration. The research aims to highlight the artistic charming of the novel's narrative method which has been ignored for several years by critics and to show Liu Zhenyun's unique wisdom of creation.
