A Study Of Middle School Magazines Of Guangxi Province During The Period Of The New Kuangsi Clique

During the period of the new kuangsi clique, middle school students' movement to resist Japanese aggression and save the country strongly drove the struggle for national liberty. However, there are few studies of those students, therefore relevant issues are still worth discussing. Guangxi then was a well-known ‘model province' and some of the middle school magazines preserved to today in which most are students' writings reflecting not only the students' study, life and thoughts, but also Guangxi's economy, social changes and the theme of times then, could be seen as an epitome of its social development.This dissertation consults middle school magazines of Guangxi province during the period of the new kuangsi clique, looking into their publication and studying their contents. Most writings in those magazines mirror the students' study and life and their themes vary with time: ‘Resisting Japanese aggression' was the theme after September 18 th Incident broke out; when the war was won, the theme became ‘Founding the nation'. Those magazines played a great role in unifying the students, promoting patriotism, and reporting the international situation, and showed us a picture of the difficulties in middle school education, the progress in educational concept and social situation during that time. This dissertation also studies the magazines' effects on students' playing a part in resisting Japanese aggression and social development. All in all, those magazines are our spiritual wealth.
