Vocabulary is so important in teaching foreigners Chinese in primary period. The foreign students' mastery of new words depends largely on the interpretation of the new words in the textbook except the teacher' explanations, that is new words meaning. The vocabulary in textbook for Chinese scholars are also part of the very important learning materials. The author found in the actual teaching process, the part of new words meaning in teaching Chinese materials has great influence on learners' mastery of vocabulary. For example, the grasp of the synonyms. Therefore, the research in the new words meaning of the primary textbooks of learning Chinese as a foreign language is very necessary, due to Developing Chinese area are the commonly used materials compiled by the author's school, and primary stage is a stage during which leaners most dependent on new words meaning, it is also an important stage in which new words meaning play a biggest role in students' learning process, so the author chose Developing Chinese(Elementary Comprehensive Course?)for example, and studied further the new words meaning in the book. Through the study of new words meaning, we can put forward the corresponding teaching strategies to guide teaching vocabulary in the primary stage of teaching Chinese as a foreign language within limits.The article is divided into three parts besides the introduction and conclusion, The first part based on the research of Developing Chinese(Elementary Comprehensive Course?) to introduce mainly about new words meaning, such as pattern of meaning, meaning form, meaning content and method, the problems of meaning. The second is a survey about the effect of new words meaning, it is mainly aimed at the primary students in the author's university, and respectively investigated the primary foreign students in International Cultural Exchange School of the university and foreign students' mastery of new words meaning in the textbook Developing Chinese(Elementary Comprehensive Course?) used by corresponding teachers, several different interpreting mode in the teaching material and students to master the new words. Through the investigation of the above two problems, further analyzed survey data, it is concluded that the effect the part of new words meaning in Developing Chinese(Elementary Comprehensive Course?) on the meaning of new words achieved. In the third part, the author respectively gave suggestions from two aspects---meaning forms and teacher's teaching according to the survey results and conclusions to guide the vocabulary teaching of primary stage of teaching Chinese as a foreign language better in a certain range.
