Analysis On Musical Creation Characteristics Of Symphony No.3 By Roy Harris

America is a young country,For its historical background, American professional music emerged in 19 th Century and till 1920 s and 1930 s it formed its individual school. As American professional music really rose before two world wars, its professional music only has 100 years of development history. Among many musicians, Roy Harris(1898-1979) is praised as “one of the most important figures in the establishment of an American symphonic music”.In this paper, one work made by him with the highest performance rate –Symphony No.3 was taken as the research object and composition techniques of the work were studied.Besides, it also concluded and summarized how composer applied counterpoint writing and multi-tonal color to reflect his unique composition style and music concept.The paper was divided into three parts: The first part was introduction about the topic selection and research status at home and abroad. The second part was main body of the paper and included three sections. In the first section, Roy's life story and works were described. The second and third sections respectively conducted analysis on ontology music of the work and discussed his creative style with personal characteristics.
