China has a long history, full of abundant culture. For the foreign visitors who want to know the history and culture of China, visiting the museums in China is the most direct way to feel the essence of Chinese history and culture. The discovery of Jinsha Site has greatly expanded the connotation and extenion of the ancient Shu culture, which has great significance to the research of the origin, development and decline of the Shu culture. The cultural relics in Jinsha Site Museum have distinct local and national features, and the publicity scripts of the relics can present visitors the historical value and inherent value of Jinsha Site.In order to show the history and culture of the ancient Shu Kingdom and make the museum fulfill its function of spreading cultures outwards,Jinsha Site Museum offers both Chinese and English versions of the publicity material.Among all the English versions of the publicity material of Jinsha Site Museum, most of them have faithfully transferred the original meanings of its Chinese versions in linguistic level, showing the original information of the exhibits displayed in Jinsha Site Museum;and meanwhile reproduced the historical and cultural connotations implied in the exhibits and their publicity texts in cultural level. These high-qualified translated versions have fulfilled their purpose of presenting the history and culture of the Jinsha Kingdom to foreign visitors rather perfectly, which has made great contributions to the "going out" of Jinsha culture. However, after the detailed researches, the writer finds that there are still some improper translations in the English versions of the publicity material, such as partial mistranslations, translations of addition, translations of omission and improper translations of cultural elements. The imperfect translation will make the foreign visitors misunderstand the exhibits and the publicity material in Jinsha Site Museum, which will make the Jinsha culture distorted in the course of “giong out” and affect the effect of the external propagation of the Jinsha culture. In order to avoid these losses, the writer argues that making a further research on the English translation of the publicity materials of Jinsha Site Museum is quite urgent and necessary. In order to show the inherent value and cultural significance of the Jinsha Site and contribute to the ancient Shu culture “going out” successfully and perfectly,we should correct the improper translations and provide standard versions.Under the guidance of eco-translatology,this thesis, first of all, carries on a macroscopical study on the high-qualified English translations of the publicity material of Jinsha Site Museum;then, gives a further analysis about the improper translations of the publicity material of this museum mainly from the aspects of mistranslations, translations of addition, translations of omission and improper translations of cultural elements, with revised English versions offered in corresponding parts. At last, from the aspects of government functions, training of translation talents, checking of translated versions and social supervision, this thesis puts forward some relevant suggestions to solve these problems.
