| Dairy industry is increasingly important in China as people's dietary preferences have changed gradually with rapid economic development in the past several decades. With the dairy consumption boom, competition between dairy enterprises is becoming more intense. For most potential consumers and investors, especially overseas ones, the enterprise's website offers an important window for them to get information about its brand and products. Translation of Chinese dairy enterprises websites can help more foreigners know about our dairy products and make our dairy products more competitive globally.In this project the author chooses texts from 4 well-known dairy enterprises'websites for the study, which includes Yili (5,520 Chinese words,3,802 English words), Mengniu (3,877 Chinese words,2,314 English words), Devondale (2,011 English words) and Borden (1,768 English words). On the basis of studying the domestic enterprises'English texts on their websites and combining the author's own translation with reference to the parallel texts on the foreign websites, the thesis makes a comparison between Chinese and English dairy enterprises websites' texts and divides the differences into three types: differences in content, differences in structure, and differences in style. In addition, this project discusses three difficulties which consist of translation of awards and honorary titles, translation of terminologies and translation of slogans. By analyzing the difficulties and the causes, the author offers four main solutions:rearranging the structure of source language, building awareness of target audience, adopting free translation and raising cross-cultural awareness.The author hopes this report may increase translation abilities and offer implications and suggestions for Chinese-English translation of Chinese dairy texts. |
