A Comparative Study On "He Zhou Zhi" In Different Historical Periods

The ancient He Zhou place, modern Lin Xia Hui Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province, as a very special location lies between Mongolian Plateau, the Tibetan Plateau and the Loses Plateau. It is also an alternative economic region where people live on both farming and planting and it culturally displays multiple ethnicities' characters, such as a mixture of Chinese and Tibetan cultural elements. Since Qin and Han dynasties, He Zhou had been or as states or as counties in alternative periods, where was military bases or commercial centers. The important towns He and Huang were the main bridge between Central China and northwest of China in the past time, and it made the possibility in the exchange of the merchant trades, political communications and cultural shares. He Zhou as a joint connected the Silk Road, Tang-Tibetan Road and Gan-Chuan Ancient Road in history and played a strategic role as "The Western Dry Harbor". Even in modern time, He Zhou still plays as important roles as its in history. "To get the truth, it must be from the history", in this point, the research of He Zhou Zhi has become a kind of necessary.Since the first He Zhou Zhi was edited during the year of Jia Jing in the Ming dynasty, to the last century 90s, the total seven numbers He Zhou Zhi were edited in different times, the rich materials on He Zhou have been making it to be a research hot spot. From the publications on He Zhou areas, these studies cover humanities, geography, economy, culture, national exchanges and etc. and provide valuable information on knowing He Zhou history. The researches also present useful references for investigating the local natural resources, social resources and cultural resources, and develop them. However, with more research products about "He Zhou Zhi" in history, the new problems come off, such as what the differences are between the compiling ideas and what the differences are in their styles, structures, and focuses. Unfortunately, these questions have not been attracted the enough attention by scholars till now. This paper bases on the methods of history theory and has a comparison between different editions of He Zhou Zhi, to examine their structures, styles, and focuses, to introduce their historical values. Hopefully, the paper will provide a inside look of He Zhou Zhi and service the local society.
