The Research Of Contemporary Book Design Under The Concept Of Slow Design

Since the Industrial Revolution, the rapid development of society has pushed people's lives to a high speed track, the needs of people's material lives have been satisfied and the economy, technology and culture has been developing by leaps and bounds. But, at the same time, the social problems that brought by the fast life have been increasingly prominent, the fast pace of life has put pressure on the people, the problems of social resources and environment are becoming increasingly severe. Therefore, the idea emphasizing the harmony of human, social and nature has been the trend of value which has been globally recognized, the concept of slow design has been gradually recognized and concerned. With the change of the human needs and the social environment, the concept of slow design will provide a new thinking and exploration for the development of book design.Firstly, from the background of slow design, this paper has clarified the connotation and principles of slow design and made a deep analysis in the oriental traditional thought of slow design. Secondly, through the analysis and interpretation of the current status of book design, describing the importance of integrating the slow design with the book design according to the objective environment and subjective needs, and under the guidance of slow design concept, combining the characteristics of book design, making a deep thinking and research on the development direction of book design. Then the four design principles have been proposed, namely participation, return, balance and durability principle which provide an overall direction of integrating the slow design with contemporary book design. Last but not least, from the visual perception elements, display mode and media analysis of integrating the slow design with contemporary book design, this paper has summed the value of integrating the slow design with contemporary book design, and provides a theoretical basis for the development of contemporary book design. This paper hopes through integrating the slow design with contemporary book design to add vitality to the development of contemporary book design, and through the medium of design, to create a better living environment and a more sustainable future for mankind.
