This thesis is based on the English-Chinese translation of the second chapter of Design and Build a Crude Oil Refining Plant in Pengerang Industrial Park, Malaysia, commissioned by Jiangsu Engineering Translation Institute Co., Ltd. From the perspective of Register Theory (hereinafter referred to as "RT"), the author discusses how to achieve register equivalence of text, tenor and mode in English-Chinese translation of bidding document so as to guarantee the accuracy and correctness of the target text and avoid mistranslation due to ignoring the change of register.This thesis is made up of five chapters. The first chapter is introduction, which expounds the background as well as the preparation work before translating. Chapter two is the analysis of the source text, and in this part the author points out the features of the source text from the aspects of lexis, syntax and style. In the third chapter, the author briefly introduces Halliday's RT and explains the reasons to apply it into bidding document. Chapter four is case study, in which the author employs Halliday's RT into the translation practice and illustrates the equivalence of the source and target text in field, tenor and mode. Chapter five summarizes the lessons, experience and limitations during the translation process.
