A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Railway Engineering Bidding

With the development of global economic integration,the exchanges and cooperation between countries are becoming increasingly close.More and more Chinese companies participates in the construction of international projects.Therefore,the translation demand of the bids and bidding document about the international projects has also increased.The understanding of the tender documents and accurate translation is essential to the success of the competitive tender.The translation report is a summary of the Chinese-English translation of the "Chinese-Laos Railway Supervision Outline" bidding document,which is a project construction document,including the construction details of the railway from the Chinese-Laos border,Boten,to Vientiane.Based on the Theory of Eugene Nida 's Functional Equivalence and combined with the practical cases,this paper analyzes the translation strategies and methods of tenders from two aspects: morphology and syntax.This report is divided into five parts.The first chapter is the introduction,an overview of the contents and meanings of this translation project.The second chapter is a detailed description of the translation task,including its content,plan and requirements.This tender document is assigned to the project manager of the internship company during the summer vacation,which actually needs a group of people to be translated due to the tight time and the large quantity of the words.The third chapter is a detailed description of the translation process from receiving a translation task to submitting the final manuscript,including the preparation before the translation,the notice during translation and the review after the translation.The translator has learned numerous terms by reading a large number of parallel texts before translation.Then the translator describes the notices about the translation on rtf files.Finally,the translator states the group revision strategy.Chapter forth is about the analysis of the translation case,which is very important in the paper.Combined with a large number of typical sentences from the tender,the translator studies and analyzes translation strategy of this text under the functional equivalence theory.In terms of the words and phrases,the translator discusses the use of terminology,word conversion,and complex phrases.In terms of the sentence,the translator discusses the translation methods of long sentences and no-subject sentences in tenders,including the Literal Translation,the Adverse Translation,the Division and the use of passive sentences.The last chapter is a summary of this translation practice.In this translation practice,the translator not only found many shortcomings,but also gained a lot at the same time.The translator mastered the translation skills of such text as well as improved the speed of translation and the utilization of network resources and translation tools.It is hoped that the methods and strategies for the translation of the bidding document in this paper will be helpful to translators who will translate such texts in the future.
