A Report On Translation Of 100MW Metehara Solar PV Bidding Document

With the development of global economic integration and fast growth of Chinese economy,more and more Chinese power utilities begin to participate in the bidding activities of international projects.Against such a background,the author is entrusted to translate the “Bidding document of 100 MW Metehara Solar PV Project”.This report is based on the translation of the project,in which the problems I encountered in the translation are carefully analyzed and discussed in the light of functional equivalence theory in hopes of probing into the strategies and techniques to solve the problems.After careful analysis and discussion,the following findings are generated:First of all,in order to understand the source text accurately and ensure effective translation,it is necessary to make adequate preparations before translation,including the preparation of background data,the collection of parallel texts and the preparation of translation tools.Secondly,the translator should have a serious and responsible attitude toward translation.Thirdly,in translating bidding documents,CAT tools are helpful but we should not depend too much on them.Fourthly,functional equivalence theory proposed by Nida can shed light on the translation of bidding documents,especially in the choice of translation strategies and techniques.Finally,the translation strategies and techniques should be employed in a flexible way in order to ensure functional equivalence and effectiveness of the translation.Besides introduction and conclusion,this report falls into four chapters.Chapter one is the description of the project,in which the background,the participants and the significance of the project are introduced.Chapter two is the description of the translation process,in which pre-translation preparations are displayed and some problems translator encountered in the translation of the project are listed and analyzed briefly.In chapter three the difficult problems are analyzed in the light of functional equivalence theory and the corresponding solutions are probed into.Chapter four is reflection,in which some experience learnt from and some lessons drawn from this project are displayed.
