The Design Of Tea Set In Modern Changsha Kiln

The research topic of this paper is about the design of tea set in modem Changsha Kiln. Changsha kilns in Hunan Province is the intangible cultural heritage, it is one of the three kilns produce tea of Tang Dynasty. China is the birthplace of tea culture. Tea set, as the carrier of tea culture, naturally carries the vigorous Chinese design culture. In the ancient time, our ancestors had tea without any tea set. However, the drinking habit was changed gradually to use some. Tea tasting was formed until Tang Dynasty, and the tea customs varied widely during the same time. All the rough and raw way to have tea, like chewing thirst-quenching, was turned into the arts of tea brewing, frying and tasting. In order to satisfy the market needs, a large quantity of tea set for brewing and frying tea had been produced in Changsha Kiln with rich variety of styles and gorgeous decorations, making it unique in the history of tea set production. It greatly enriched the culture of Hunan. Their splendid and practical culture with such a long history need to be protected and passed on. With the change of the custom and popularization of drinking tea, the demand for tea set is becoming increasingly greater, which makes people having higher and higher requirements of the tea tools, not only of the functional use, but also in pursuit of its superior aspect, so more profound and spiritual connotation should be melted into the tea set design in the first place.The author obtained a certain understanding of the requirement of modern tea set design by the result of a questionnaire survey. Through field investigation in Changsha kiln, the author also obtained a certain understanding of the classification and technological characteristics of tea set, thus the objects of design were decided as three aspects:modeling, decoration and forming technique. The design and craft of tea set were finally determined by combining the analysis of the target population, using conditions and the suitable areas.
