Report On The Translation Of Water And Wastewater Management Technologies In The Ancient Greek And Roman Civilizations

Hinging upon Water and Wastewater Management Technologies in the Ancient Greek and Roman Civilizations,the author in this report discussed,as non-professional-field translators,how should we conduct term translation,taking the advantage of the two principles of“systematicity”and“distinguishability”.The former indicates that term translation should always give consideration to both the systematicity of certain science branch and that of related terms,such as terms of the same level(open channel??and closed conduit??)and those of different levels(aqueduct???and main conduit??);besides,relative,similar,opposite terms should also be distinguishable with respect to their morphology.In a word,systematicity lays emphasis on the sameness of the topic and the style,while distinguishability puts stress on the difference among terms from the same system.There is a dialectical relationship between them two.Besides,given the fact that many documents and material mostly have an overlapping nature of many professional fields,we translators should always try to draw a clear distinction between them,therefore getting each field marked off;avoid giving up the consideration of related systems and evaluating,unifying terms solely.
