Asian Americans History and Culture: An Encyclopedia was co-edited by Linghu Ping and Allan Austin, both of whom are experts of Asian American studies. The book covers the political, social and cultural history of Asian immigrants from the earliest contact to the present day. The translator chooses excerpts P23-46 and P257-300 to analyze text features of the book and specific problems in the process of translation.Based on the analysis at lexical and syntactic level, some translation strategies and techniques are adopted in the process of translation, which is mainly Catford's Shift Theory. This translation report includes four parts. Chapter One gives a general description of the task, including an introduction to the book and editors, and an analysis of the source text. Chapter Two is the process description, consisting of preparations before translation, while-translating and proof-reading. Chapter Three is the core of the report, which is composed of discussions of word translation and sentence translation based on translation practice, and analyses of difficulties and problems from the perspective of different theories and skills. Chapter Four mainly deals with what the translator has learned from this translation practice and draws a conclusion of the report.
