The case on focus in this report is taken from the translation project between the author and Beijing In Him Inheritance Co. Ltd. The project is the translation of Henry Matthew's interpretation of the second book of Chronicles and it is one literature and religious text. In the process of translation, the author did thorough preparation, reading parallel texts for reference and going through some related material and professional terms, in order to obtain a thorough understanding of the background information, striving to ensure a professional translation, and to meet the needs of target readers at the same time. Besides, the author should attempt to ensure the fluency and clarity of the translation, thus to make readers correctly understand the content of the second book of Chronicles according to the interpretation of Scriptures.The translation of Henry Matthew's interpretation of the second book of Chronicles is a practice under the theoretical guidance of function plus loyalty doctrine by Christiane Nord. The translation report summarizes some translation techniques in religious texts, analyzes the difficulties encountered in the translation process, and suggests some measures taken accordingly, thus to provide reference for future translation in the same field.The translation report consists of four chapters: the first chapter is a general introduction to the whole case study, including information of the source text, requirements of the client and target readers; the second chapter describes the process, including translation planning, the preparation of reference books, bibliography, term list, the selection of translation theory guiding the conduct of the project; the description of function plus loyalty principle, its direction to translation practice and the work after the translation is done, including self-revision, revision from technical personnel and client evaluation; the third chapter serves as the part of case study, which exemplifies some of the difficulties in the translation, and tries to provide solution to the difficulties, such as exact translation of religious terms, the skillful way to deal with grammatical and syntactic problems; the fourth chapter is the conclusion of the former chapters.
