This thesis choose "shu", a frequent term, to study its cognitive frame and analyze its various but reasonable meaning items. Based on the analysis of abundant corpus, we can have a deeper understanding about this word, meanwhile, we can get to know some rules about how people percept different things. This process is not only essential to Chinese native speakers, but also very helpful to those who learn Chinese as a second language. For cognitive ability is an important language learning ability.This thesis contains six chapters, contents of each chapter is as following:Chapter one is the introduction, demonstrating the expectation of this research, the reason why this certain topic and language term is chosen, how it's going to be studied, the meaning of this study and previous related researches that already exist.Chapter two is the detailed process of the corpus analysis, how the basic categories form and the reason why.Chapter three is analysis of the metaphorical mechanism. This chapter tries to find the cognitive rules of this language term.Chapter four is the cognitive cultural part, it's about how the connotation of "shu" has an influence on how Chinese think and what they intend to like.Chapter five makes some advice on the cultivation of metaphorical abilities when learning Chinese as a second language.Chapter six is the summary and conclusion, this part points out the limitation of this thesis, and the issues that can be solved in the future.
