40—70 years of the 20 th century is the most sumptuous period of Eileen Chang, coincides with unrest at home and abroad at this time, as well as frequent wars. After experiencing the“Island” period and the fall of Shanghai, “Besieged City” period of Hong Kong, Eileen Chang had gained rich and profound experience of war. Thanks to that, Eileen Chang formed her unique style of narrative pattern and text creation features about war, by combing the experience mentioned above with her own ideological and characteristics. Eileen Chang made a detailed in-depth characterization and reflection of the public and their fate who had struggled to seek security for the next war drag on all sectors in China. And she macroscopically grasped and reflected the problems encountered in China, which was experiencing the transformation from feudal to modern society,The creation work of Eileen Chang can be divided into two periods, and the 1950 s could be seen as a watershed of them. Analysis of preliminary works mainly bases on the novels Genesis,Xiao Ai, and The Young Marshal. Eileen Chang put the feudal families and modern warfare into two opposed parties in her early narrative about war, in the deep meaning, it essentially means the violent collision between Chinese entrenched feudal system and modern thoughts as well as foreign culture. Besides, Eileen Chang partly integrated the concept of proletarian literature and art into her novel, Xiao Ai is a typical example. As for analysis of her later creations, I mainly rely on novels called Floating Flowers Wave Core and Lust Caution. During this period, Eileen Chang tried to narrate her stories in a more natural way. In the formal level, she pursued to be more undisciplined. In the content level, she tried to use subtle irony to reflect distortions and destruction on humanity that the war had brought to.Overall, Eileen Chang had showed her specific understanding of war and politics. Namely, she maintained alienation to the political movements and partisan fight. Meanwhile, she had reservations about the prevailing nationalism. The final pursuit of Eileen Chang was freedom for thought and creation. In her works, she explored diligently to express the panic and calm of humanity, as well as human limitations and constancy. Eileen Chang was willing to understand all kinds of life choices under war state with her compassion and tolerance.
