The history of movie adaptation is almost equal to the history of film itself. Thousands of Chinese film makers dedicated their whole life to movie, since which was introduced in China. For it was so fascinating and was branded as the western modern civilization to the old China. In the childhood of Chinese films, we have started Sino-Foreign cultural exchange by adapting foreign literacy works on the local screen. During all period of the cross-cultural adaption, we could discover the modern constructing in early Chinese movies and the openness, diversity and richness of Chinese films while we introducing and learning the excellent culture of other countries.By combing the history and objects of adapted Chinese films, I would like to study the restricting factors, strategy, style, connotation and artistic value of visualizing foreign literacy works into the indigenous movies through the viewing angle of history, territory, space-time, social ideological and aesthetic notions.Through analyzing movies as New Camellia(1927), Chinese Snow white(1940), A Glimpse of America(1952), Bloody Morning(1992), The Banquet(2006) and so on, this thesis will depict the communication of nation, culture and society between China and other countries. The thesis would use the method of text analysis, historical analysis and comparative study to reappear the distinction of different stage of Chinese cross-cultural adaption under the background of era and artistic trends.In the 21 st century, with the global development of modern world, there are more and more international communication and cooperation between different cultures. Transnational capital and national political accommodation and consultation have become increasingly frequent. Chinese movie has already tried to seek a broader overseas development under the influence of “Glocalization” strategy of Hollywood. It is both an opportunity and a challenge for the cross-cultural adaption while turn the unidirectional way to the bidirectional way. This thesis will review the past and predict the future by summing up the experience of the Chinese film cross-cultural adaptation. Also, the thesis would like help Chinese movie create more healthy and proper art works for the people while communicate with other countries under the background of global integration.
