This thesis is an English to Chinese translation report. It is based on Chapter 12 to Chapter 15 of the book entitled The Complete Idiots Guide to Positive Dog Training, which covers positive dog training ways of basic behaviors(sit, down and stand)and some other daily behaviors(loose-leash walking and stay). The report includes four parts.Chapter 1 is devoted to task description which describes the background and significance;Chapter 2 deals with process of the task which includes preparation, process and proofreading.Chapter 3,the key part of this report,is a case study.Under the guidance of text typology, the author confirms the source text is an informative text.Since there are lots of terms and professional knowledge about dog training in this book, most of the descriptions used are formal expressions with few colloquial expressions that add much fun to the text. Then the author studies and analyzes the problems of vocabularies and syntax encountered during the practice. And then the author notices that though most of vocabularies and sentences in the text are all simple, they would make readers confused if translated literally. So,though the terms used in the text are seemingly simple, without careful diction and organization of words order,it is still difficult to translate them into fluent and decent Chinese. And the last chapter is the conclusion, which can conduce to the future translation practice.
