The Translation Of Noun Phrases,Prepositional Phrases And Compound Sentences In Architectural English

This report is written on the translation of the introduction of newly released products in Architecture&Detail(the first issue of 2017).In the text,besides the professional architectural vocabularies,it tends to use noun phrases,prepositional phrases and long sentences.The translator mainly makes a detailed analysis on the translation difficulties in the main part of this translation report,including the translation of noun phrases,the understanding and translation of with-structure,and the translation of compound sentences.Using noun phrases and with-structures frequently can not only reflect the characteristics of large information volume,but also present the features of concise expressions in architectural English.When translating the texts,the translator should not only satisfy the literal faithfulness,but also need to pay much attention to the differences between English and Chinese languages as well as the characteristics of architectural English.In this regard,the translator adopts the method of word conversion and amplification.Using many compound sentences is supposed to be another characteristic of the architectural English.Large amounts of information is always organized in a single compound sentence in the text.With regards to this,the translator should focus on understanding the logical relationship within sentences,methods such as splitting the sentence and adjusting word order are adopted to solve the problem.The translator hopes to present valuable translation references for the translation of noun phrases,with-structures and the compound sentences,providing some inspirations for translators who translate similar texts in the future.
