It's a common phenomenon that the interpretation presents in an obvious improper way. How to avoid this phenomenon within the limitation of time and environment, which is one of the most difficult problems interpreters face. We should think over about why the improper translation appears in our daily life. As the improper translation will influence the quality of interpretation and cause ambiguity, or even interrupt the communication. Whether the improper translation has the same rules or regularities or not. Are there any ways avoiding this phenomenon? All of these problems contribute this research. This research combined the way of questionnaire and interpretation recording. In the part of questionnaire, the author chose thirty postgraduates in the class of interpretation as research objects, and sent them recording questionnaires. Then the author selected five students as targeted research objects. According to the results of the surveys, the author summarized the following six reasons causing the improper translation:the improper conversation of meaning to form, compact structure to flow structure, person to material, dynamic form to static form, concretion to abstraction, and analysis language to integrated language. In the part of recording, the author gives the recording texts to five targeted students. By analyzing examples of classic translation recorded in books written by Lian Shuneng and Yang Fengning. By means of analyzing the above reasons, as well as the Functional Equivalence Theory, the relevant conclusion and improvement are drawn. It is of great practical significance to study the questionnaires and cases of improper interpretation. It isn't only helpful for the interpreter to better understand strategies and techniques of English-Chinese interpretation, but also to improve the self-quality of interpreters. In view of this, the author hopes that this research will provide some inspiration and help to find some efficient ways to avoid this improper Chinese-to-English interpretation phenomenon.
