Pauses are often seen as an index to the fluency of discourse.Improper pauses affect and constrain the quality of interpretation.Long improper pauses will not only influence readers' comprehension of the original text,but also add to the questions on accuracy of interpretation,and consequently the credibility of the interpretation and even the interpreter.Interpreters' cognitive and strategies application is highly related to the output of pauses.This thesis takes on a Chinese-English consecutive interpreting and tries to analyze the kinds of pauses and the factors that may cause pauses.Combining with thoughts for the speech of Wen Jiabao at the Royal Society in 2011,the writer tries to extract the final conclusions from the common cases,and proposes strategies to deal with the issues and hopes to help the interpreters to strengthen self-training by using these strategies.
