Xing Bing (931-1010), is a scholar on Confucian Classics in Northern Song Dynasty. During the early years of Northern Song Dynasty, he compiled three important writings as follows: "Commentary and Subcommentary on The Analects of Confucius", "Commentary and Subcommentary on Xiaojing" and "Commentary and Subcommentary on Er'ya". Xing Bing's academic features and ideological profiled was outlined based on these three writings in this dissertation. "Commentary and Subcommentary on The Analects of Confucius ", the most important one in his three writings, is the significant connection between the Confucian Classics in Han and Tang Dynasties, Neo-Taoism in Wei and Jin Dynasties and Neo-Confucianism in Song and Ming Dynasties.The purpose of studying Xing Bing, the significance of the topic and current research status on his writings were introduced in first chapter. Historical background in thought of Xing Bing is clearly reflected is second chapter. On the one hand, the goverment of Northern Song utilized his writings to promote the Confucianism; on the other hand, the transformation of Han xue to Song xue can also be viewed through his thought. The common styles in Xing Bing's three writings were emphasized in third chapter. For example, they all were inherited from the Confucian Classics tradition of Kong Yingda, and smooth academic changes could be traced among these writings. Xing Bing's Confucian Classcis thought, the core part among his writings, was analysed in chapter four. However, compared to Neo-Confucianism and Neo-Taoism, rigorous academic system is not reflected in Xing Bing's thought..At last, we summarized this dissertation and try to reacquaint Xing Bing's Confucian Classcis thought.To explain Confucian Classics, Xing Bing's Confucian Classcis thought is indispensable. In order to illustrae his thought systemically, his three writings are discussed and compared with the related writings of Neo-Confucianism and Neo-Taoism in this thesis. It can be explored that the Xing Bing's thought plays an important role during the academic thoughts transition in Han Xue to Song Xue. Xing Bing was not highly apprised in previous studies Through the research, it may contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of his writings and make an objective evaluation of his the achievements in Confucian Classcis.
