On C-E Translation Of Report On The Work Of The Hubei Provincial Government From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

Hubei Province,the hinterland of central China,is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization.It is also an important education base in China with its cultural power ranking among the top in the country.Its annual report on the work of Hubei provincial government contains rich information of politics,economy and people's livelihood,which is the authoritative material for the outside world to understand the latest development of Hubei.Therefore,the quality of its translation not only determines the degree of other countries' understanding of the government policies of the province in China,but also directly reflects the overall cultural cultivation,educational level and comprehensive quality of the province.Any slight mistranslations of its translation may affect the target readers' understanding of various policies and the reputation of the government,and may even bring about misunderstandings of the report to foreigners,thus affecting Hubei's diplomatic relations.However,as the official government documents,the provincial government work reports are mostly delivered within government agencies almost without any official translations.Moreover,because of the differences of political system,social system,thinking mode and language/culture between China and Western countries,the translation of provincial government work reports often presents a lot of difficulties and therefore requires more attention and research from the academic circle.In view of this,from the perspective of ecological translation theory,the present thesis takes the author's practice of Chinese-English translation project of the Report on the Work of the Hubei Provincial Government(2018)(RWHPG2018)as the example to analyze the characteristics and difficulties in translating government report text in order to offer some advice on the strategies and methods for accurately translating such texts.The research aims to provide reference for the Chinese-English translation of government report work text.The present thesis consists of five parts.Firstly it introduces the research background,task profile,significance of the study and the structure of the thesis.Then the thesis expounds some important issues in the whole translation process which involves prior preparation,and translating process and work after translation.Next it makes a survey of the ecological translation theory and its core concepts.Then the author analyzes the characteristics and difficulties of English translation of government report text,and discusses appropriate strategies and methods to cope with these difficulties in the translation process under the guidance of ecological translation theory.Finally,the author concludes some experiences acquired in the translation process and offer some suggestions.This study can help us to have a better understanding about the translation characteristics,translation mode and methods of government report text.
