Quantifier is a special language phenomenon in Chinese.Among them,"ge(?)"is one of the most widely usable and the most commonly used quantifiers. Also,in the process of evolution, its syntactic function and semantic feature have changed very substantially.Based on previous researches and supported by data from ancient books and use semantic map to describe and induce the semantic functions of "ge" in ancient Chinese, also,we draw a space frame to compare the differences among different historical periods. In this way,we can find the connection of different semantic functions of "ge".Explain the function of the "ge" from the perspective of semantic evolution can help us verify that the semantic map model of quantifier have explanatory power to the diachronic evolution of ancient Chinese.Using the grammaticalization theory to outline the evolution path of "ge" proves that the process from quantifier to auxiliary words is not a single, linear path.We should use a history view to the evolution of each branch. We also prove that different functions of "ge" is polysemy instead of heteronym. In addition, according to "ge" in the performance of semantic map, combined with the semantic evolution regularity and diachronic linguistic information,we enrich the existing semantic map model of quantifier, and build a more reasonable one.The thesis contains three parts. The first chapter introduce way we select this topic, and the existed productions. We also discuss the current status and operating principle of our research methods, the semantic map model. The second chapter we describe "ge"in a diachronic mode, find its evolution process, and draw four pieces of semantic maps. The third chapter systematically discuss the differences among the four maps.As well as,we conclude six paths of the grammaticalization of "ge".At last we discuss some problems in Chinese history researching, especially in researches of "ge".
